The Arctic Faculty is one of the oldest faculties of the Academy. Such famous scientists as Academician O.Y. Schmidt and well-known polar explorer I.D. Papanin took part in its foundation.
The engineer-hydrographers are trained in the speciality “Hydrography and Navigational support of shipping”. The cadets acquire practical skills during practical training in geodesy, hydrography, electronic map making and navigation under the supervision of professors and experienced specialists of the Russian Hydrographic Service.
In 1997 International Consultative Committee FIG/IHB accredited the speciality “Hydrography”, assigning it the highest category “A” and issued a Certificate, confirming the international status of the diploma of AMSMA engineer-hydrographer.
The high levels of training and current market conditions ensure complete demand for the Academy graduates. They are assigned to organizations and enterprises of the Federal agency for the Marine and Inland Water Transport, to the Ministry of Natural Resources, companies engaged in offshore exploration and production of oil and gas, organizations performing marine and land survey works, design and construction of seaports, research institutes.
The course of education and training lasts for five and a half years.
