In 1976 the command of the Leningrad Higher Marine Engineering College decided to relocate the first year cadets of the Navigation Faculty and Radio Engineering Faculty to the new study complex located in Strelna. Yu.P. Antonov, assistant professor of the Chair of the Hydrography of the sea was appointed the acting Head. In September 1977 there were 700 first year cadets in Strelna. Next year 800 first year students were accepted. In1981 by the decree of the Naval ministry the organizational structure was modified and General Engineering Faculty was founded. In different years the faculty was headed by senior lecturers Yu.P. Zakharov, V.D. Luginin, U.P. Antonov. A.M. Boyarintsev, candidate of technical sciences, senior lecturer has been the Head of the faculty since 2001. General Engineering Faculty comprises seven chairs with 7 professors and 37 senior lecturers on staff:
  • Higher Mathematics Physics and Chemistry Theoretical Mechanics History and Culture Philosophy and Psychology English language Physical Training and Sports.
  • First and second year students of all specialities live and study in Strelna: navigators, marine engineers, electrical engineers, radio engineers, managers in the field of maritime transport, hydrographers, oceanologists, meteorologists. Since 1977 more than 16 500 cadets have undergone training at general engineering faculty.
